History of the Volnay wines

According to historians, our wines were already known in the 4th century.

In the 13th century, Philippe-le-Hardi, forbade the 'Gamay' plants encouraging the 'Pinot' plants in order to guarantee the quality of our wines. Later, his grandson, Philippe the 6th of Valois, received as a present 72 barrels of Volnay from Duke Eudes, and had them shipped to the Royal Court.

The domain's foundations date back to the 16th century and evolved in the 17th century, such as the houses built during the reign of Louis XIV.

It is interesting to note that the vineyard in front of the Domaine bears the name of its owner during the French Revolution: Pierre Clément Daudignac.
